The Difference Between CBD Oil And Hemp Seed Oil

CBD oil and hemp seed oil are becoming more and more popular in the health market today.

The main difference between CBD oil and hemp seed oil is that CBD oil is made from the stalks, leaves, and flowers of the cannabis plant family.  Hemp seed oil is made from the seeds.

Both oils are derived from the hemp plant (a kind of cannabis plant), but there are some key differences.

The main difference between CBD oil and hemp seed oil is that CBD oil is more potent than hemp seed oil.  This means that CBD oil can provide stronger relief from symptoms than hemp seed oil can.

But before that, let’s clarify first the confusion about the cannabis plant family.

Cannabis Plant Family

We have to put in mind that when we say or hear the word cannabis, it means both hemp and marijuana plants. These two plants belong to the same cannabis plant family.

Hemp plants are the cannabis plants with 0.3% or less of THC, while marijuana plants are the cannabis plants that contain more than 0.3% of THC.

And to recap, THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) is the major psychoactive molecule in marijuana, the component that makes people “high”.

CBD oil is commonly used as an alternative for conditions such as pain, inflammation, insomnia, depression and anxiety in many countries.

Types of CBD Oil

CBD oil comes in 3 types that consumers can choose from:

  1. Full-spectrum CBD oil
The type of CBD oil that has all compounds present in the hemp plant, including other cannabinoids, terpenes, THC (less than 0.3%).
  1. Broad-spectrum CBD oil
Broad-spectrum CBD oil is almost the same as full-spectrum CBD oil. It does contain other cannabinoids, and terpenes, but the main difference is that it is almost free of THC.
  1. Isolates
Isolates are CBD oil that only contain CBD, and no other ingredients.

Cannabis experts recommend to opt for full-spectrum CBD or THC products to be able to take advantage of the “entourage effect”.   A recent discovery within cannabis research. This means that the more than 100 cannabinoids present in cannabis plants are more effective together than when in isolation. It is said to result in stronger effects known as synergy.
